Before you drive out

The four things people ring to ask

  • OpenGive us a ring before you set off — we answer the same day. Owner to confirm — highest priority on the whole siteDays and times, all seven days. Replace this line with the real hours, and put the same hours on the Google listing, which currently has none at all. “Is it open?” is the question that decides whether a Bharatpur family drives out.
  • BookingCall ahead if you can — and please do for barbecue, larger groups and camping. Owner to confirmCan small groups just turn up unannounced? How much notice do you actually need for BBQ, a big group, or camping? Say it exactly and this line stops generating phone calls you do not need.
  • PayingOwner to confirm, then this row goes publicCash only, or is there a Fonepay / eSewa / Khalti QR at the counter? Worth knowing: an Indian visitor’s UPI app (PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm) scans a Fonepay QR directly.
  • ParkingOn site and off the road. Room for cars and a line of bikes.
  • FoodDine-in and takeaway. Barbecue over coals in the evening.
  • WhereManahara Chowk, Manahara‑08, Ratnanagar. About 3 km from Sauraha, about 10 km from Bharatpur.
  • SeatingMostly outdoors — under the thatch, in the huts, and out on the field.
  • Also hereCamping and bonfire nights, live music some evenings, and group bookings for functions.

The Place

Turn off the road
and the noise stops

A wooden cabin with the lights on. Thatched huts, tables under the trees, and open field running out to the treeline. There is a horse. There is a buffalo farm along the fence and water beyond it.

In the evening the string lights come on, someone picks up a guitar, and nobody is in a hurry to leave. That is the whole idea.

MEMC Wild Roots Farmhouse opened in 2026 on the edge of Manahara in Ratnanagar, Chitwan — about three kilometres from Sauraha and ten from Bharatpur. It is a farmhouse in the Nepali sense: somewhere to give an afternoon and an evening to, eat well, sit outside, and stay for the fire.

No park permit. No gate fee. No jeep to book. You are three kilometres short of the Sauraha gate and none of that applies here. Turn off the road and you have arrived.

The Grounds

What is actually here

No brochure language. This is what you will find when you walk in.

A horse

Guests tend to meet the horse before they meet the menu. It is the first thing people mention afterwards.

Open field to the treeline

Grass, saplings and space, running out to standing forest. Buffalo farm along the fence, water beyond it.

The machan

A raised thatched platform, the way they are built across the Terai. Best seat on the property when the sun drops.

Fire and string lights

After dark the lights come on across the huts and the lane, and the fire gets going. This is when the place is at its best.

Somebody playing

A guitar under the thatch, unamplified, no stage. It happens because people bring instruments, not because it is scheduled.

Room to park

Off the road, room for cars and a line of bikes. Riding groups can pull in together without blocking anything.

Eat, Sit, Stay

Four reasons people come

Guests eating at a wooden table under a thatched roof at dusk, lit by a hanging lantern. Dine-in & takeaway

The kitchen

Food out to the tables under the thatch, or packed to take with you. Ask what is good today — it moves with what is around.

Barbecue nights

Grilled over coals, outside, while it gets dark. Best with a group and no plan for what happens after.

The grounds of MEMC Wild Roots Farmhouse after dark, huts and paths picked out in string lights under a night sky. Camping

Stay the night

Camp on the field with the fire going. Chitwan sky, no streetlights, and the forest making its noises. Call ahead — space is limited.

Take the place

Birthdays, functions, office evenings, riding clubs. Tell us the headcount and the date and we will tell you what works.

Owner to supply — menu Nothing here invents a dish or a price. Send the current chalkboard list with rough prices and a real menu section goes in, marked up so Google and AI answer engines can read it. Two rules: write every price as the final price (Nepali law forbids adding 13% VAT or a service charge on top of a displayed number), and keep it to dishes you always have.

Riders

The motorcycle on our badge
is not decoration

From Road To Roots. That is the whole name of the thing.

Chitwan sits in the middle of every good loop in this country — Kathmandu down through Mugling, across to Pokhara, out to Lumbini and back. MEMC is a few minutes off that line, with somewhere to put the bikes, food that does not take an hour, ground to pitch a tent on and a fire to sit around after.

Club runs, weekend groups, solo riders passing through. Give us a call before you set off and we will have the fire ready.

Bringing a group?

Groups & Events

Bring everyone

Birthdays, bratabandha, anniversaries, office evenings, club runs, farewell dinners. The field takes a crowd and the fire does the rest.

Tell us the date, the headcount and roughly what you want — food, BBQ, music, camping, or all of it — and we will come back with what we can do and what it costs.

  • Good forFamily functions, pasni and bratabandha, birthdays, office evenings, riding clubs, farewells
  • The spaceField, machan, huts and lane. Almost all of it is open air.
  • How it worksGroup bookings are arranged with us directly, not taken as open picnic-ground hire. Call and we will talk it through.
  • NoticeCall ahead. Barbecue and larger groups need warning.
Owner to supply — the eight answers that close a group booking Every group organiser in Nepal asks the same questions on the first call. Answer these once and they go on the page permanently, and most of them stop needing a call at all:
  1. Maximum headcount you can seat and feed
  2. Minimum group size for a booking
  3. How much notice you need — normal group vs barbecue
  4. Can a group bring its own food or cook on site?
  5. Can they bring their own drinks?
  6. How many toilets, and where
  7. Can a bus get down the access road, and how many vehicles fit
  8. Veg and non-veg both available?
Owner to supply — one price anchor Not a full menu, just a floor: “Meals from around NPR ___. Group day packages from around NPR ___ per head.” A range beats silence — a family deciding whether to drive 30 minutes from Bharatpur needs a number, and a range is not a legally displayed price so it does not trap you. For reference, Bharatpur halls publish NPR 300–900 per plate and the free public picnic grounds charge NPR 20–200 entry.

Owner to supply — opening hours There are no opening hours anywhere online right now: not here, not on the Google listing. Google treats “open at the time of search” as a ranking factor, so an empty hours field quietly removes MEMC from every “open now near me” result. Send the days and times and they go in here, in the page’s structured data, and on Google.
